Summer Youth Camp Staff Application 2024
Hooray for Summer Camps! The summer staff leadership positions are naturalist, crafts leader, lifeguard, grounds/maintenance, music leader, and office/media. These positions receive a volunteer stipend. Volunteer positions (no stipend) for counseling, kitchen staff, and maintenance/custodial are also available on a weekly or summer-long basis.
Summer staff qualifications include the following: agreement with the Camp Mennoscah mission and vision statements, the ability to relate well with campers and staff of all ages, the capability to make sound decisions, a strong work ethic, flexibility in all situations and calm in emergencies, and the ability to have fun. Summer staff must be 18 years old or older, preferably with at least one completed year of college or work/volunteering.
The 2024 summer camp season begins June 2 with orientation for summer-long positions. The season will end August 4. Summer camps start June 9. Summer staff is expected to be available for all weeks/days. This includes orientation and the week after summer camps are officially over. Staff will be scheduled according to programming needs. Weekend hours are rotated among staff. Junior, Junior High, and Senior High Camps run from Sunday to Friday. PreJunior Camps run Sunday to Thursday. First Camp runs from Thursday to Saturday.
The summer staffers are paid a volunteer stipend of $250 per camp week, regardless of the length of the camp week. (Subject to change/increase.) A bonus stipend will be given for meeting certain requirements. The week with a Pre-Junior camp and First Camp is considered one camp week, even if the camps fall on different calendar weeks. If staff leave early or make arrangements to be gone for any stretch of time during a camp week, the volunteer stipend may be prorated for that week. Orientation, all extra work days, and workdays following the end of the summer youth camps also receive a volunteer stipend based on time worked.
Summer staff, summer-long, and volunteer positions must have their own health/medical insurance. Room and board is provided. Summer staff is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all certifications as required for their position before arriving at camp.
Your application will be reviewed by Camp Mennoscah staff and an interview may be requested. Hiring decisions will begin as soon as possible; applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. The process may take until Spring 2024 to complete. We suggest application forms be turned in as soon as possible for the best opportunities.
Please contact us with questions about the summer staff positions or the process. We look forward to receiving your application!
