Camp Report: First Camp, June 15-17

Hey! It’s First Camp!  Under the leadership of Program Directors Lindsey Young and Stacy Griffin, 25 campers had their first taste of Camp during the session that started on Thursday, June 15, and ended on Saturday, June 17. 

First Camp is designed to give first-timers a chance to experience time at an organized camp without the pressure of a longer week and longer time away. For some of our campers it is a first time away from home experience, and Lindsey, Stacey, and their staff make this special time memorable and comfortable for all.

Campers and staff had to practice being flexible when they encountered rain during their camp session. On the first night of camp, rain necessitated moving recreation time inside and finishing the night with an artificial campfire, created with a fan and some paper flames. Celia, a camper from Hesston, reported that that fake campfire was one of her favorite things of the session. Norah, a camper from Goessel, mentioned that River Play was her favorite camp activity - a sentiment that was echoed by many of the campers.

Edel MIller, Summer Staffer, commented on the flexibility of everyone involved in the First Camp Sessions. Camp was very thankful for the counselors who came to help out, most of whom were older and more experienced volunteers to help assure a good experience for the campers. 

First Camp is far from the last camp these campers will experience at Mennoscah.
