Summer Youth Camp Staff Application

Apply Online

Woo-hoo, summer camp!  We’re so excited to meet our 2020 summer staff!  The summer staff positions are naturalist, crafts leader, lifeguard, grounds/maintenance, music leader, office, and all-round/media. Other positions include a Director of Support and a volunteer to catalogue snakes on camp grounds.  Volunteer positions for counseling, kitchen staff, and maintenance/custodial are also available on a weekly or summer-long basis.

Summer staff qualifications include the following: agreement with the Camp Mennoscah mission and vision statements, the ability to relate well with campers and staff of all ages, the capability to make sound decisions, a strong work ethic, flexibility in all situations and calm in emergencies, and the ability to have fun. Summer staff must be 18 years old or older, preferably with at least one completed year of college or work/volunteering.

Our 2020 summer camp season runs from May 31 to August 9.  Actual summer camps begin June 7. Summer staff is expected to be available for all weeks/days unless advance arrangements are made. This includes the work days after summer camps are officially over. There is often one week during the summer where reduced staff is needed. Staff will be scheduled according to programming needs. Weekend hours are rotated among staff.

The summer staffers are paid a volunteer stipend of $250 per camp week, regardless of the length of the camp week.  The week with a Pre-Junior camp and First Camp is considered one camp week, even if the camps fall on different calendar weeks. If staff leave early or make arrangements to be gone for any stretch of time during a camp week, the volunteer stipend may be prorated for that week.

Orientation, all extra work days, and workdays following the end of the summer youth camps also receive a volunteer stipend based on time worked. The Director of Support must be 21 years old or older with leadership experience and knowledge of Camp Mennoscah.  The position of snake cataloguer is a summer-long position, receives meals and lodging (no stipend), and requires the same paperwork and background check as all camp staff. This is a great position for a senior seminar in biology.

Summer staff and summer-long positions must have their own health/medical insurance. Room and board is provided. Summer staff is responsible for having and maintaining all certifications as required for their position.

Your application will be reviewed by Camp Mennoscah staff and an interview may be requested. Hiring decisions will begin November 15; applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.  The process may take several weeks to complete. We suggest application forms be turned in as soon as possible for the best opportunities.

Please contact us with questions about the summer staff positions or the process. We look forward to receiving your application!
